Honkai: Nexus Anima at gamescom 2026: What to Expect
Nexus Anima makes its gamescom debut in Hall 6.1, Booth B030 from August 26 to 30, with a hands-on demo, a giant Umpurrella, and six free goodies.
Honkai: Nexus Anima is playable in public for the first time at gamescom 2026, in Hall 6.1, Booth B030 at Koelnmesse in Cologne, from August 26 to August 30. This is the game’s gamescom debut, and the hands-on demo covers the three systems the game is built on: catching Anima, exploring the world, and Nexus Battles.
If you have been following the game since the closed beta and could not get in, this is the first build anyone can play without a test invite.
Beta caveat. Nexus Anima is still in development with no release date. Everything below is drawn from official HoYoverse announcements published in July and August 2026. The demo build has not been shown in detail, so treat specifics about its content as subject to change.
Key takeaways
- Where: Hall 6.1, Booth B030, Koelnmesse, Cologne. When: August 26 to 30, 2026.
- Nexus Anima shares a roughly 660 square metre HoYoverse space with Genshin Impact, Honkai: Star Rail, Zenless Zone Zero, and Petit Planet. Each title gets a dedicated zone.
- The demo covers Anima collecting, world exploration, and Nexus Battles, which is the whole core loop rather than a single sliced-off mode.
- The booth includes a giant Umpurrella installation and scenic design themed on the town of Iia.
- Six free goodies have been shown, including a Breadhead paper bag and a Petrilog sticker sheet.
- No release date has been announced, and HoYoverse has not promised one at the show.
New to the game? A one minute primer
gamescom will be the first time a lot of people hear the name, so here is the short version before the logistics.
Honkai: Nexus Anima is HoYoverse’s creature collector, and the newest entry in the Honkai series. You play as an Eidos, a character who bonds with creatures called Anima, in and around a seaside town named Iia. It is free to play and multi-platform, and it has been through two closed beta tests.
The loop has two halves that feed each other. Out in the world you explore, solve environmental puzzles, and catch Anima through Bond Encounters. In combat you arrange a team and let it fight automatically, so battles are won by preparation rather than reflexes.
Two attributes drive team building, and they are worth knowing before you touch the demo:
| Concept | What it means |
|---|---|
| Aspect | A creature’s conceptual element, such as Light, Dark, Memory, or Beauty. Stacking Anima that share an Aspect unlocks synergy bonuses. |
| Trait | A creature’s combat role, one of five: Blaster, Explorer, Mascot, Mastermind, or Protector. This decides what it actually does in a fight. |
If you want the full picture, the lore primer covers the setting and the beginner progression guide covers the opening hours.
Where and when to find the booth
The practical details are confirmed on official art and in the HoYoverse press release.
| Detail | Confirmed information |
|---|---|
| Event | gamescom 2026 |
| Venue | Koelnmesse, Cologne, Germany |
| Hall | 6.1 |
| Booth | B030 |
| Dates | August 26 to August 30, 2026 |
| Space | Approximately 660 square metres, all HoYoverse titles |
| Status | Hands-on demo, gamescom debut |
Hall 6 sits toward the eastern side of the Koelnmesse complex. The official venue map HoYoverse published highlights Hall 6 specifically, so if you are navigating on the day, head there rather than to the larger central halls.
Nexus Anima is not the only debut in that space. Petit Planet, HoYoverse’s cozy life sim, is also showing publicly for the first time. That matters for planning, because two debut titles in one booth means the queues will be split but both will be busy.
What is playable in the demo
HoYoverse named three systems for the on-site build. Together they are essentially the full game loop in miniature, which is more generous than a typical convention slice.
Anima collecting
Catching Anima is the game’s identity. Unlike a traditional creature collector where you weaken a target and throw an item, Nexus Anima ties acquisition to exploration and to Bond Encounters in the open world.
If the demo includes the bonding flow, this is the part most worth your queue time. It is the system that separates Nexus Anima from the auto battlers it gets compared to, and it is hard to judge from trailers. Our bond guide covers how the system worked across the closed beta tests.
World exploration
The demo includes world exploration, which points at Iia, the seaside town that anchors the game’s early hours. Expect the day and night cycle, traversal with Anima acting as mounts and gliders, and the environmental interactions that gate certain catches.
For what the world looked like in the Evolution Test, see our exploration guide.
Iia and the surrounding Planes formed the explorable space in the closed beta. The gamescom build is expected to draw from the same region.

Nexus Battles
Nexus Battles are the combat layer: an auto battler where you set a formation and then watch it resolve. You place your team, Aspects and Traits determine synergies, and the fight plays out without further input.
This is the easiest system to demo and the most likely to be front and centre on the show floor. If you want to arrive prepared, the formation guide explains rows and Trait roles, and the Aspect synergy guide covers how stacking Aspects unlocks bonuses. You can also experiment with our formation planner beforehand.
Worth setting expectations on: Nexus Anima is entirely player versus environment. There is no PvP mode, so nothing at the booth will be a competitive head-to-head. We covered why in Is Nexus Anima PvP or PvE.
Nexus Battles resolve automatically once the formation is set, so the decisions happen before the fight starts.

One honest caveat about judging the combat from a convention demo. Auto battlers are difficult to evaluate in ten minutes, because the interesting decisions come from a roster you have built over hours. A demo hands you a pre-made team, which removes exactly the part that makes the system tick. If the battles feel shallow on the floor, that is partly the format rather than the game.
The booth itself
HoYoverse described the Nexus Anima zone as built around the game’s nature-inspired world, with immersive scenic design and “playful signs of Anima life throughout the townscape.”
The centrepiece is a giant Umpurrella installation. Umpurrella is a Beauty Aspect Mascot, one of the more recognisable designs in the roster, and an obvious choice for a physical build that photographs well.
The booth is supported by NVIDIA, Antom (Ant International), iBUYPOWER, and DJI. Hardware partners at a HoYoverse booth usually mean high-end PC demo stations rather than mobile handsets, though Nexus Anima is a multi-platform title and the Evolution Test ran on both PC and mobile.
The free goodies
This is the most concrete part of the announcement and the detail most coverage has skipped. HoYoverse has shown six items available from the stand.
| Item | Notes |
|---|---|
| Anima hair accessory | Hair clips shaped as Anima |
| HoYoverse sash and badge | Event branded, not Nexus Anima specific |
| Anima sticker sheet | Multiple Anima designs on one sheet |
| Postcard | Features key art with several Eidos |
| Breadhead paper bag | Shaped as the character |
| Petrilog sticker sheet | A full sheet of poses for a single Anima |
The wording in the announcement is “collect a variety of exclusive goodies” and “get goodies from our stand,” framed alongside booth activities. Read that as rewards for participating rather than a free pile by the entrance. HoYoverse conventions typically run a stamp card or a short activity per item.
The six goodies HoYoverse has shown for the Nexus Anima stand, including the Breadhead paper bag and Petrilog sticker sheet.

Two of these are quietly interesting for roster watchers. Breadhead is an Eidos that has since become playable, and Petrilog is one of only two Anima in our dex with no confirmed Aspect or Trait. Giving both of them dedicated merchandise suggests HoYoverse considers them established parts of the cast, not placeholders.
How to get in
There is no separate Nexus Anima ticket. You need standard gamescom admission, either a trade visitor pass or a public day ticket, bought through the official gamescom site.
HoYoverse also ran a ticket giveaway through its German account, @HonkaiNA_DE, announced on July 17. If you are reading this close to the show, that window has likely closed.
A few practical notes for anyone attending, based on how HoYoverse booths have run at previous shows:
- Hands-on queues form early. Two debut titles in one booth will concentrate demand on the demo stations.
- Goodies are usually tied to activities, so budget time beyond the demo queue itself.
- Public days are busier than trade days. gamescom trade visitor days are the calmer option if you have the choice.
These are general expectations from past HoYoverse events, not confirmed gamescom 2026 policies. HoYoverse has not published queue rules, activity details, or goodie quantities for this booth.
Why this show matters more than usual
The Evolution Test, the game’s second closed beta, ran July 9 to July 27, 2026. It was invite-gated and wiped at the end. Since then the game has been quiet.
gamescom is therefore the first public build since that test closed, and the first time anyone can play without an invite. For a game with no release date, a playable public demo is the strongest signal available about how close it is to launch.
HoYoverse published a DevTalk wrap up on July 27 summarising feedback from the test and the improvements being worked on. The stated direction included more Chromatic Anima, more mount Anima, bonding tied to Skein success rate, and performance and movement work.
It also mentioned early evolution forms, meaning juvenile versions of Anima that later evolve. Lumehart and Glampa were among those hinted. Our evolution guide covers what is known about the system so far.
The DevTalk was published almost entirely as infographic images rather than text, so the detail available in written form is limited. We have reported only what is legible and corroborated by press coverage.
What to watch for
If you are following remotely rather than attending, these are the things worth tracking during the show window.
- Whether the demo build shows anything new. Any Anima, Eidos, or system not present in the Evolution Test would be the most substantive news out of the show.
- Whether early evolution forms appear. They were promised in the DevTalk but have not been shown in a playable build.
- Any release date or next test window. Neither has been announced, and gamescom is a natural venue for either.
- Hands-on impressions from press. Outlets that get booth time usually publish during or just after the show, and those are the first independent accounts since the beta.
One correction worth making
HoYoverse’s gamescom press release covers five titles at once, and some coverage has blurred them together. To be precise: the Elsasani meet and greet is a Petit Planet activity, not a Nexus Anima one. Elsasani is a Starsea Racer from that game.
Similarly, the roughly 660 square metre figure describes the entire HoYoverse exhibition space, not the Nexus Anima zone alone. We have seen both details misattributed.

What happened to the Evolution Test?
The Evolution Test, the game’s second closed beta, ran from July 9 to July 27, 2026. HoYoverse published a DevTalk wrap up on July 27 covering feedback and planned improvements, including more Chromatic Anima and early evolution forms. The gamescom demo is the first public build since that test ended.
Bottom line
If you are at gamescom between August 26 and 30, Nexus Anima is in Hall 6.1, Booth B030, and the demo is worth queueing for because it covers the real loop rather than a single mode. Go in knowing the combat is auto-resolved and there is no PvP, so the interesting part is catching and bonding.
If you are following from home, the show is the best chance in months for genuinely new information, and the first independent hands-on impressions since the Evolution Test ended.
While you wait, the Anima dex covers all 85 creatures revealed so far, the Eidos database covers the playable characters, and the formation planner lets you sketch teams from confirmed Aspect and Trait data. Our beginner progression guide is the best starting point if the demo is your first exposure to the game.
We will update this page during and after the show as concrete details land.
